Meet your neighbor
Name: Joe Weber, “The Silver Guy”
Age: “I was old before the Dead Sea got sick.”
Occupation: Weber makes and sells silver jewelry, primarily from Italy and from Native Americans. He has been at the Silver Lake Mall for two months selling his silver from a “cart,” or a jewelry concession. He plans to be there year-round.
Hometown: He is living in Rathdrum now. He has been coming to North Idaho for many years for all of the local shows, such as the Downtown Street Fair, Car d’Lane and Art on the Green. He lived in the Florida Keys for the past five years selling his jewelry from a concession at a resort there, but fell more and more in love with North Idaho, so he moved here.
Family: Weber is single and has a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jennifer, in Rathdrum.
Hobbies: Long-distance biking and mountain climbing in Colorado. He taught scuba diving for six years and was also a private pilot.
Favorite movies: His No. 1 favorite of all time is the “Wizard of Oz.” He also loves a British film called “Stairway to Heaven.” He said it is a wonderful story about how love conquers everything; a Royal Air Force pilot in World War II is shot down but refuses to die and go to heaven because he had fallen in love with a RAF dispatcher. His third favorite movie is “An American Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.”
Favorite reads: In the past year he has been reading and enjoying philosophy. But the book he got the most out of in his life is Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged.”
Favorite food: Southwestern cuisine.
Favorite music: Swing; he taught kids swing dancing in Denver. He also enjoys jazz and old-time rock ‘n’ roll.
