Seahawks return to their familiar facility

Scott M. Johnson Everett Herald

KIRKLAND, Wash. – After spending the past three weeks at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, the Seahawks practiced at their Eastside facility Wednesday.

Seattle held an afternoon practice, will hold another one today, then will head off to Kansas City on Friday. Seattle plays the Chiefs in a preseason game Saturday night.

The Seahawks welcomed back three injured players on Wednesday, when linebacker D.D. Lewis (concussion), fullback Tony Jackson (shoulder) and cornerback Michael Herndon (concussion) returned from injuries. Free safety Ken Hamlin (shoulder surgery) also saw his most extensive action of the off-season and proclaimed himself ready to play Saturday night.

“I expect to be back in the lineup,” said Hamlin, who has been practicing since Aug. 13 but saw his first day of full contact Wednesday. “When I go back on the field, I expect to be back to my regular self. I don’t want to go out there unless I am.”

Lewis, who is slated to start at outside linebacker, still doesn’t know if he’ll play in the game. He has been out since Aug. 1, when he suffered the concussion during a practice collision with teammate Leonard Weaver.

Coach Mike Holmgren said he was “hopeful” that both Hamlin and Lewis will be able to play Saturday.

Not all of the injury news was good. Several Seahawks were injured in Monday’s loss to Dallas, although none seriously.

The most significant player is running back Maurice Morris, whose tight hamstring will probably keep him out until the week of the Sept. 11 regular-season opener.

Two players who might not have made the roster – running back Dante Brown and defensive tackle Ron Smith – have fairly serious injuries that will keep them out for longer periods of time.

Notes

Running back Josh Scobey, who was signed on Tuesday, took part in practice. “We’re going to give him every chance to be our kickoff return guy,” coach Mike Holmgren said. … Wide receiver Alex Bannister (clavicle), offensive lineman Wayne Hunter (knee), linebacker LeRoy Hill (knee) and defensive end Christian Mohr (knee) continue to be sidelined by injuries.
