Torch Run fund-raiser – Uniformed Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies will be serving food today, noon-8 p.m., at Red Robin, 14736 E. Indiana. The tips they earn will be used to fund the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, which raises money for Special Olympics; 477-6612.
Search and Rescue recruiting – The Spokane City/County Search and Rescue Explorer Post are looking for adult advisors and new youth members age 14 and up. Run by the Department of Emergency Management, members help police look for lost hunters or downed planes, among other tasks. Open houses are scheduled for today, 9-11 a.m. at Spokane County Fire District 9 Station 92, 3801 E. Farwell, and 1-3 p.m. at Spokane Valley Fire Station 1, 10319 E. Sprague; Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division; Sept. 10, 9-11 a.m. at Spokane County Fire District 8 Station 81, 57th and Palouse Highway, and 1-3 p.m. at Medical Lake City Hall.
