Search and Rescue recruiting – The Spokane City/County Search and Rescue Explorer Post are looking for adult advisors and new youth members age 14 and up. Run by the Department of Emergency Management, members help police look for lost hunters or downed planes, among other tasks. Open houses are scheduled for Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division; Sept. 10, 9-11 a.m. at Spokane County Fire District 8 Station 81, 57th and Palouse Highway, and 1-3 p.m. at Medical Lake City Hall.

Child ID – A Smart Parent-Safe Baby event will be at all Wal-Mart stores Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The National Center for Mission and Exploited Children and other agencies will give out free child identification kits. Women’s retreat – The Girl Scout’s Camp Four Echoes on Lake Coeur d’Alene will host a weekend retreat for women over age 21 Sept. 9-11. Many activities including hiking, canoeing, crafts, massages and more. Cost is $145. Register by calling 747-8091 ext. 206.

United Nations discussion – The United Nations Association – Spokane will host a discussion of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive. 624-3608.

Job expo – Worksource Spokane hosts a Job Expo with about 50 employers in fields such as health care, hospitality, construction and government Sept. 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Lair Student Center at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene. Come prepared to interview. 532-3092.

Quilters meeting – The Spokane Chapter of the Washington State Quilters meet Sept. 15 at 1 and 7 p.m. at the Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute’s commons room, 4000 W. Randolph Road. The guest speaker will be fiber artist Nancy Elliott MacDonald. Nonmembers are $7. 467-6480.
