The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Falls Community College will be the site for two national masters track and field events after the 2007 USA Masters Weight Pentathlon Championships and the 2008 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field National Championships were awarded to the Spokane Regional Sports Commission.

Delegates from the commission and Spokane’s local organizing committee traveled to Jacksonville, Fla., to the USA Track & Field national convention, to bid for the two championships. Both events, for competitors age 30 and older, will be held in August of their respective years.

Spokane also was host to the track and field championships in 1992 and 1996. The masters event is expected to bring more than 2,000 athletes, coaches and spectators to the area for the six-day championships.

The two-day pentathlon championships consist of competition in the javelin, discus, shot put, hammer and weight throw.
