Camps for Kids – The Northeast Spokane Kiwanis Club hosts its annual event to raise money to send kids to camp, 6:30 a.m. Friday at the Spokane Club, 1002 W. Riverside. The Christmas breakfast also includes entertainment and a raffle. Tickets are $25; reservations are required; 466-0216.

Engineers Forum of Spokane – A presentation on public education by Orville Barnes, former member of the Spokane School Board and the Washington State School Board, noon Monday at the Holiday Inn Airport, 1616 Windsor Drive; Lunch is $12; 244-3467.

Human rights – Raymond Reyes, associate vice president for diversity at Gonzaga University, will speak on “Building a Multicultural Democracy,” 7 p.m. Monday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive; 624-3608.

Winter birds – The Spokane Audubon Society will host a slide show presentation on birds that spend the winter in the Spokane area, 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday at the Riverview Retirement Center, 1801 N. Upriver Drive.

Holiday concert – The Spokane Area Children’s Chorus, along with several musical guests, will perform in a holiday concert, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 and 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington. Tickets are $5 and $6 in advance; $7 and $8 at the door; 624-7992.

AmeriCorps – This group is offering on-the-job training in the housing construction industry to those ages 18-25. The group is also looking for tutors for at-risk high school students and a volunteer coordinator/trainer, 18 years or older, to provide activities for AmeriCorp members; 456-7660.
