Family hit by adversity helps others

A local family will be collecting toys, clothing and food for Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and Anna Ogden Hall on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Shelp family experienced hardship during 2004, when two members of the family underwent surgery late in the year almost simultaneously – one to remove a brain tumor and the other to repair a shoulder.

After the family’s adversity last year around the holidays, family members decided to help those in need this holiday season.

New or used toys, nonperishable food, and new or used clothing for women and children may be dropped off in the parking lot at Kmart on North Division from 10 a.m. to noon both days.

Donated items will be delivered to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and Anna Ogden Hall on Dec. 20.

Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, a creation of the caring ministries of the Sisters of Providence, provides family-centered care to infants, children and adolescents. For more information, call 474-4841 or visit www.shmcchildren.org.

Anna Ogden Hall, an outreach of Union Gospel Mission Ministries, is a shelter for local women and children. Visit www.ugmspokane.org or call 535-8510 for more information,

Call the Shelp family at 244-6188 for any questions on how to participate.
