Utah’s Thorburn burns Zags

Shona Thorburn had 22 points and a career-high 13 assists, leading the No. 23 Utah Utes to an 81-54 non-conference rout of the Gonzaga Bulldogs in women’s basketball action in Salt Lake City.

Kim Smith added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Utes (6-1).

Ashley Anderson scored 16 points and Katy Ridenour had 10 points and a team-high six rebounds for Gonzaga (3-7).

(14) Minnesota 83, Washington State 57: Jamie Broback scored 16 points to lead the Golden Gophers (6-1) to a win over the Cougars (6-2) in Minneapolis.

Katie Appleton topped WSU with 13 points, while Katie Benz and Charmaine Jones scored 12 and 10, respectively.

Eastern Washington 63, Portland 57: Joanna Chadd had game highs of 17 points and four assists to lead the Eagles (4-3) to a non-conference win over the Pilots (2-5) in Portland.

Brittney Osborn came off the bench to score 13 and Felice Moore grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for EWU.

Reserve Rachel Warren paced Portland with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

CC Spokane 66, Grays Harbor 52: Ali Mittlestadt scored 12 points and Emily Wittkopf chipped in with 10 points to send the Sasquatch (5-4) to a victory over the visiting Chokers.

Idaho State 99, Idaho 89 (OT): Andrea Lightfoot hit 7 of 9 3-point attempts and finished with a game-high 38 points to lead the Bengals (4-4) to an overtime non-conference victory over the Vandals (3-5) in Pocatello.

Leilani Mitchell led the Vandals (3-5) with 20 points and nine assists. Karly Felton added 19 points and Jessica Summers scored 18 and snagged a team-high 18 rebounds for Idaho.

Men

Travis Gabbidon scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles to a 74-68 win over the North Idaho Cardinals in Twin Falls.

Mac Hopson and Darin Nagle each scored 14 to lead North Idaho, which dropped to 12-1.
