Bi-County: Odessa’s boys (4-0, 2-0) are off to a hot start, but they’ll face the league’s best team early in the season when they travel to Spangle to play Liberty (3-0, 2-0) on Friday night. David Johnson is averaging 20.5 points a game for Odessa. Andy Hodgson leads the Lancers with 19.7 a game.

Panorama: Curlew’s boys (4-1, 2-1) are hosts to Wellpinit (3-1, 2-1) Saturday night in a game between two teams that will apparently fight for second place behind Republic (3-1, 3-0) in the Panorama North, as the Tigers beat both teams by at least 17 points. In the girls game, Wellpinit has taken early control in the Panorama North with a double-overtime win over Inchelium and a close win at Republic. Curlew lost a league game to Inchelium (and another non-league game to the Hornets), but could knot everything through one round of play in the North behind juniors Amanda Grumbach (16 ppg) and Nichole Miller (15.6).

Whitman County League: Six of the seven basketball teams begin league play Friday, while Rosalia waits until Saturday to visit Asotin. Two defending WCL boys co-champions meet on opening night as Garfield-Palouse (1-3) hosts LaCrosse-Washtucna (1-1) at Palouse. Tekoa-Oakesdale (2-2), the third co-champion, will begin at Asotin (4-1). L-W girls (1-1) have a pair of intriguing matchups, visiting defending WCL champion Gar-Pal (2-2) on Friday and playing host to St. John-Endicott (4-2) at LaCrosse on Saturday. SJE’s Ellen Miller has averaged 21.8 points over her last four games, including a league-high 26 points in a 70-64 loss to defending State 1A champion Colfax on Saturday.
