Brown sparks Michigan State

Associated Press

Shannon Brown scored a career-high 27 points and No. 12 Michigan State rallied to beat Cleveland State 83-75 on Friday night in East Lansing, Mich.

Paul Davis added 24 points, while Maurice Ager had 22 for the Spartans (8-2), who trailed 46-35 late in the first half and got just 10 points from their other seven players.

The balanced Vikings (2-5) hit a school-record 14 3-pointers, including 10 in the first half, and looked nothing like the team that lost by 57 points at North Carolina in November.

Raheem Moss and Patrick Tatham each had 12 points to lead Cleveland State. Victor Morris added 11 points and Carlos English 10 in a near-triumphant return for Vikings coach Mike Garland, a Michigan State assistant from 1996-2003.

Nick Young had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Trojans (6-2) past the Broncos (2-4) in non-conference play in Los Angeles.

Lodrick Stewart added 16 points and Gabe Pruitt had 14 points and six assists for the Trojans, who extended their longest winning streak in four seasons to six games.

The Trojans won nine consecutive games in 2001-02.

Brian Snider had 15 points, eight assists and four steals for the Broncos, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Stane’s Bufford added 12 points.
