Special services, programs, concerts planned next week
The week before the celebration of Jesus’ birth is filled with special services, Christmas programs and concerts. There’s something for just about every taste, so get out your calendar and check it twice before heading out the door.
•The Sunday school children at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will present their Christmas program, titled “Listen to Christmas,” during the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. The church is at 810 S. Sullivan Road.
•The children of Veradale United Church of Christ will present “The Story of Jesus’ Birth” during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.
•The Sunday School children at Zion Lutheran Church will present the Christmas play “Angelhead” during the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday. A birthday party for Jesus will follow. The church is at 8304 E. Buckeye Ave.
•Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road, will host a Clarion brass ensemble concert titled “Catch the Spirit Live” at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, available at the door or in advance through Tickets West at 325-SEAT. A “goody” potluck will follow the performance, so bring a Christmas treat to share.
•Three Valley churches are teaming up to present a Christmas cantata titled “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” The production is the result of collaboration among Holy Trinity Lutheran, Good Shepherd Lutheran and Christ Lutheran churches. The performance will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran, 13009 E. Broadway Ave. A dessert potluck will follow the performance.
•The choir of Foothill Community Church will present the musical “The Gift” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The church is at 11102 N. Forker Road.
•Millwood Community Presbyterian Church will host its annual Christmas Tea Sunday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. There will be music, food and festive fun at the church, located at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.
The church will also host a Music at Millwood concert titled “As the Prophets Foretold” at 4 p.m. Sunday. All are welcome and admission is free.
•Christ Lutheran Church will host one worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, which will include the children’s Christmas program. The church is at 13009 E. Broadway Ave.
•Greenacres Christian Fellowship will host a candlelight Communion service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The service will include the “prayer basket” where people can put in confidential prayer requests. The church is at 215 N. Barker Road.
