Area churches offering yule services tonight, Sunday
To celebrate the birth of Christ, many area churches are holding special worship services this weekend.
• St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is presenting a candlelight family worship service today at 4 p.m.
Communion, candlelight and carols will be offered at 6 and 11 p.m. The church’s chancel choir will perform at the 11 p.m. service.
Christmas Day celebrations will be Sunday at 10:45 a.m.

• Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt St., is offering a service at 7 tonight featuring the church’s praise team.
The chancel choir, instrumental ensemble and the handbell group will perform during the church’s Christmas Eve service tonight at 10. The Christmas Day service will be Sunday at 10 a.m.

• The youth department of Westside Church of the Nazarene, 2820 W. Francis Ave., is celebrating the birth of Christ with a living nativity.
Visitors will be able to view the nativity scene in the church yard tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. The church will also celebrate a candlelight service from 8 to 9.

• Plymouth Congregational Church, 1502 W. Eighth Ave., is offering a Christmas Eve service tonight at 7.
The service will include a children’s musical drama, “Footprints in the Snow”; a performance from the Plymouth choir; and a costumed monologue by Gary Marks, titled “Silas: the Tax Collector’s Christmas.”
The church will also offer a Christmas Day worship service Sunday at 10 a.m. Daniel Bakken, an astronomy professor at Spokane Falls Community College, will speak about “Faith and Science of the Star of Bethlehem.”

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third Ave., is offering a 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve family candlelight service today.
There will also be a Christmas Day worship service including members from the congregations of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and New Vision Church on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Christian Youth Theater
Christian Youth Theater is presenting its fifth annual benefit concert, “Encore, Encore! The Stars are Out Tonight,” Wednesday at 6 p.m. at The Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave. The evening will include numbers from this past season, a live and silent auction, a drawing and dessert.
Admission is $20. Proceeds will benefit the theater, which lost many of its sets, props and costumes in a fire in October.
