Freeman falls in home tournament

Spencer Behrens scored 19 points and Matt Rice added 14 to lead Bonners Ferry to a 67-53 victory over host Freeman in the first round of the Greg Larson Memorial Christmas Tournament on Tuesday night.

DeAngelo Casto scored 19 points for Freeman, but the Scotties (4-3) committed 25 turnovers and were outscored 23-6 in a crucial second quarter that gave the Badgers (5-4) a 12-point halftime lead.

In Tuesday’s early game, Cody Jones scored 18 points, including two of Timberlake’s three in overtime, as the Tigers (2-4) defeated Tonasket 49-46 to earn a berth in tonight’s championship against Bonners Ferry. Jerad Moser hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead Tonasket, who will face Freeman in the consolation game.

Clint Moquist had 11 points and 10 rebounds as University defeated visiting Diamond Valley of Australia 50-38 in a non-league game. Tyler Olson scored 14 points to lead U-Hi (2-5), which forced 11 first-half turnovers. Matthew Fennell led Diamond Valley with 22 points… Arton Toussaint scored a career-high 22 points as West Valley cruised to a 63-47 victory over Lakeside at Nine Mile Falls. Greg Bradley added 11 for West Valley (6-1), who led 23-7 after the first quarter. Joel Noland led Lakeside (3-3) with 17 points. … Jakobi Bradeen scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and Brandon Holibaugh added 12 points and 10 rebounds as Kettle Falls (7-1) defeated Liberty Bell 61-52 at Brewster. … Matt Martin had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead LaCrosse-Washtucna (3-4) to a 53-41 win over Pomeroy at Washtucna. Tyrell Curnutt scored eight points to lead Pomeroy, which shot 4 of 29 from the floor in the second half.

Girls basketball

Jessie DePell scored 12 points in just 15 minutes as Freeman opened its Greg Larson Memorial Christmas Tournament with a 44-18 victory over visiting Tonasket. Kelsey Raines added nine points and seven rebounds for the Scotties (6-1), who held the Tigers scoreless in the first quarter. … Freeman will face La Salle in tonight’s championship game after the Lightning defeated Bonners Ferry 54-37. Molly McGree scored 16 points and Jasmine Stohr added 14 for La Salle, who outscored BF 36-18 in the second half. Becky Lowther led the Badgers (7-5), who will face Tonasket in the consolation game, with 14.

Courtney Galvin scored a career-high 23 points, and Kellie Cummings added a career-high 19 as Lakeside routed West Valley 71-35 in a non-league game at Nine Mile Falls. Kelsey Stillar (12 points) and Kia Gibson (10) also hit double figures for Lakeside (3-3), while Olivia Parvey led West Valley (1-6) with 16. … Alyssa Koller had 18 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season as LaCrosse-Washtucna (4-3) defeated Pomeroy 41-27 in Washtucna.

Wrestling

Three-time Washington State 2A placer David Snyder led the way at 145 pounds as Medical Lake won 10 of the 14 weight classes in the M-2 tournament at Rogers.

Snyder, who has moved up to 145 this season, defeated Joel Howard of Shadle Park 19-4 in the championship match.

The Cardinals dominated the eight-team tournament with 270 points, beating Shadle Park by 101 points and Mead by 115 1/2.
