Uganda youth choir to perform

The Watoto Children’s Choir will perform at several locations throughout the area in January.

The choir, which is from Uganda, East Africa, performs Concerts of Hope, featuring contemporary gospel music, ethnic dance and native African rhythms.

The children in the choir hope to raise awareness of AIDS in Africa and Ugandan orphans and to raise money to benefit the Watoto Child Care Ministries.

The choir will perform Thursday at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley; Friday at 7 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trial Road; Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. at Moscow Church of the Nazarene, 1400 E. Seventh St., Moscow, Idaho; and Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. at Washington State University in Pullman.

New Year’s services

• The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is offering a New Year’s celebration today at 6 p.m.

The evening kicks off with an open labyrinth walk led by Spiritus, the diocesan center for spirituality, and the cathedral’s Labyrinth Committee. Visitors are invited to come and go, or stay for the whole evening.

There will be a Harmony Walk from 10 to 10:30 p.m. and a service with Holy Communion at 11.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third Ave., is presenting New Year’s Day worship at 10 a.m. Sunday.

• Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., is presenting two services to celebrate the New Year.

The first is at 7 p.m. tonight and includes Communion. The second will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday; there will be no Bible class or Sunday school that day.
