CV hangs on, beats Wolves

Luke Clift had 17 points and seven rebounds as visiting Central Valley hung on to an 11-point halftime lead and held off a late Lake City rally to win 49-44 in a non-league game Friday night.

Matt Morgan scored 15 points and hit three 3-pointers to guide the Bears (6-1), who led 24-13 at the half. Jarom Taylor scored 11 to lead the Timberwolves (4-6), who cut the deficit to two points with 20 seconds left before CV hit free throws down the stretch for the final margin.

Ty Stoddard added 10 points, and Brad Bemis had seven points and seven assists for Lake City.

In other non-league action, Mark Sherwood scored 19 points on 4-of-9 shooting as Shadle Park defeated host Riverside 85-56. Zack Humphrey added 15 points and hit three 3-pointers for the Highlanders (4-3), who outscored the Rams 51-31 in the second half.
