Have the winter doldrums? Head to Triple Play
It seems like a winter trip to a warm climate! It’s 85 degrees. Parents are sitting in lounge chairs watching the kids jump wave after wave of warm, clear, blue water. There is a huge splash as someone flies out of a water slide. There’s a scream as a child emerges out of yet another water slide and plunges into the surging water. Can it be that these people are in the Caribbean, or maybe it’s Hawaii? No, actually they’re at the indoor water park in Hayden, and they are staying overnight.
Triple Play offers fun times for the entire family. There is an indoor water park with a retractable roof for fair-weather visits and a wave machine that will keep the kids (and adults) jumping and floating over the waves. Watch out for the dinosaurs lurking on the shore line. After climbing 60 feet to the top of a tower, jump into a 300-foot-long dark and twisting body slide. There is a huge whirlpool tube ride.
Another option is a 400-foot “Lost Falls” slide that rushes whoever dares, through intermittent light and dark drops with turns. There are 30-foot slides for younger kids and they can soak in shallow tidal pools surrounded by water cannons and water geysers.
The water slide is just the start of what kids will find at Triple Play. There is much more:
Bowling: There are 20 lanes in a smoke-free environment. Two duckpin lanes are for younger kids. Black-light bowling can be part of the fun.
Climbing wall: Climb the wall and ring the bell. This is a safe attraction for most any age.
Miniature golf course: The inside nine holes are laid out in a beautifully “groomed” course.
Lazer Runner - Lazer Tag: These games have their own arena and state-of-the-art equipment.
Arcade and video games: There are dozens of high-tech video and arcade games for the whole family. Top scorers can win prizes at the redemption center.
Soft play: For smaller children there is a free, three-level play areas with slides, crawls, tractors and jets.
Outdoor activities in the warmer months include go-carts, 18-hole miniature golf and bumper boats.
The indoor activities are open 365 days a year. There’s a restaurant that serves pizza, burgers, kid meals and appetizers. Beer and wine are offered. In the pool area there is an indoor/outdoor hot tub.
Triple Play is connected to a Holiday Inn Express by an enclosed sky bridge. The Inn has 96 rooms with 16 different unique room types. There are bunk bed suites for kids in a room off from the main bedroom that has a queen-size bed. The bunk room is equipped with its own TV, VCR and game cube.
Another family room type includes two bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, and the other with two queen size beds and a couch that makes out into yet another bed. Grandparents could come along with this room arrangement. There are Jacuzzi suites with fireplaces. All the guest rooms come equipped with refrigerators, microwaves, hair dryer, coffee makers, high speed Internet, 27-inch TV and DVD players. The Inn is pet-friendly and the entire hotel is smoke-free.
Included in the room price is a continental breakfast with hot and cold cereal, waffles, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, hard boiled eggs, Danish, juice and hot beverages on the menu.
While you may not be able to fly off to some warm climate for a family vacation, a visit to Triple Play along with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Express might be just what you need to take the edge off of winter, at least for a little while.
