Ferris guard Templeton signs to play for Eastern Oregon

Jeremy Templeton, a 5-foot-10 senior guard at Ferris High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Eastern Oregon University, the Mountaineers announced.

“Jeremy will be a great addition to our program,” said Mountaineers head coach Ryan Looney. “He is a true point guard who really understands how to run a team.”

NorthwestHoops.com ranked Templeton a Top-10 prospect in Washington for point guards. He is also a McDonald’s High School All-America nominee. The three-year starter has averaged more than 14 points and five assists per game the last season and a half.

Templeton, a first team All-Greater Spokane League selection as a junior, also excels in the classroom. He was named to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association regional academic squad and was a WIAA District Individual Sportsmanship Award winner as a junior.

Templeton is also an accomplish baseball player. He has been a three-year starter for the Saxons was a second-team All-GSL selection as a junior.

Women’s basketball

For the second time in three weeks, Emily Faurholt, a post player at the University of Idaho, has been selected the Big West Conference player of the week.

The junior from Kennewick helped the Vandals to their best conference start since the 1985-86 season with 26 points in a win over Long Beach State and 31 points in a victory over UC Irvine last weekend, giving Idaho a 12-6 overall record and 7-2 conference mark. It was the second time she topped 30 points this season.

Faurholt averaged 28.5 points and five rebounds while shooting 21 of 39 (53.8 percent) from the floor that included 5 of 12 on 3-pointers. Her point totals moved her to the top of the Big West in scoring at 22.2 points per game. She also climbed to 10th all time at UI with 403 career field goals.
