Vandals claim 6th straight win

Emily Faurholt and Leilani Mitchell combined for 48 points to lead the University of Idaho Vandals to a 73-67 victory over the University of the Pacific Tigers, clinching a Big West Conference basketball tournament berth.

The win is Idaho’s sixth straight and the first in Stockton, Calif., in the history of the program.

Faurholt had team-highs of 25 points and seven rebounds, while Mitchell had 23 points, four assists and four steals, helping the Vandals (15-6, 10-2) to their best conference start since finishing the 1981-82 season 14-0 in the Northwest Empire League. Heather Thoelke added 11 points.

Tina Sanerivi paced Pacific (5-15, 2-10) with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Carolina Ruiz added 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jessie Menkens scored 10 points.

Oregon 62, Washington St. 47

Senior Brandi Davis scored 19 points to lead the visiting Ducks to a Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Cougars at Friel Court.

The Ducks (16-6, 9-4) led 36-28 at halftime, thanks in part to poor shooting by the Cougars (5-18, 1-13).

For the game, WSU shot 28 percent, including 0 for 14 from 3-point range. Oregon shot 44.

Keisha Moore had nine points and eight rebounds for WSU.

Oregon’s Cathrine Kraayeveld scored nine points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Washington 84, Oregon St. 53

Cameo Hicks and reserve Breanne Watson each scored 13 points as the visiting Huskies trounced the Beavers in Pac-10 play at Bank of America Arena.

Kayla Burt’s half-court shot as time expired in the first half gave the Huskies (10-14, 6-8) a 20-point lead. They were never threatened in the second half.

Kim Butler scored 17 points for the Beavers (6-17, 1-12).
