Deer Park High in dire need of updating

The Spokesman-Review

While “election” may have become a dirty word over the past few months, I urge the citizens of Deer Park School District to step out once more and head to the polls to vote on March 8 for the school district’s bond issue to modernize and expand the Deer Park High School. Having once worked in the district for eight years, I can attest to the fact that the high school is in desperate need of renovation.

It is a sad fact that our children have the most modern and advanced facilities from kindergarten through eighth grades, and then spend their final four years of school in a building with facilities well below par. For many it is like stepping backward in the learning process. I am personally proud of the educators in our district and have great faith in the new district administration to spend our tax dollars in an efficient and effective manor.

This is the last of our school buildings to be remodeled and in so doing, restore a sense of pride in our high schoolers, not to mention our community, as they will benefit from the use of improved facilities. The middle school, remodeled in 1995, has become an extremely popular site for various local groups and sports clubs. This bond issue is and should be a community effort. I hope that our citizens will feel this way too.
