Kings hold on for another last-second win

Associated Press

Cuttino Mobley made two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining, and Mike Bibby had 38 points, six rebounds and seven assists Sunday night to lead the Sacramento Kings to a 110-108 victory over the Washington Wizards in Washington.

Gilbert Arenas scored 43 points for the Wizards, but his foul in the closing seconds sent Mobley to the line. After dribbling down the clock, Mobley made a spin move in the paint and was fouled going up for the shot.

Arenas knocked the ball away and was incredulous after the call, venting his frustration by throwing the ball against the backboard at the other end of the court. No technical was called.

After Mobley sank the free throws, Steve Blake’s desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the rim and bounced away. The Kings improved to 2-0 – both decided in the last two seconds – since welcoming three new players obtained in the Chris Webber trade.

Jazz 99, Rockets 92: Matt Harpring scored 28 points, and Raja Bell added 21 to lead visiting Utah to a win over Houston.

Houston, which led by as many as 10 points in the first half, has dropped three straight after winning eight in a row.

Tracy McGrady led the Rockets with 23 points.

Raptors 108, Lakers 102: Jalen Rose scored 26 points, including eight straight late in the fourth quarter, and Toronto extended its winning streak to three games with a victory over visiting Los Angeles.

Kobe Bryant had 31 points for the Lakers, who have lost two straight following a season-high three-game win streak.

Heat 112, Magic 103: Dwyane Wade scored 28 points, Eddie Jones added 24 and visiting Miami Heat beat Orlando for a second straight day.

The Heat won both contests without center Shaquille O’Neal, who sat out a fourth consecutive game with a sprained left knee.

Nets 104, Cavaliers 98: Vince Carter had 34 points, 11 rebounds and combined with Jason Kidd to make all the key plays down the stretch as New Jersey held on to beat Cleveland after squandering a 21-point lead in East Rutherford, N.J.

Kidd had 14 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds and rookie Nenad Krstic added 15 points as the Nets sent the Cavaliers to their sixth straight road loss.

Celtics 120, Suns 113 (OT): Antoine Walker scored 33 points in his second game back with Boston, and the Celtics became the first Eastern Conference team to win in Phoenix this season with an overtime victory over the Suns.

The Suns were without Steve Nash for the third straight game with a sore hamstring, and Amare Stoudemire fouled out with 8:47 to play in regulation.

Timberwolves 91, Trail Blazers 83: Latrell Sprewell scored 27 points, including a key 3-pointer with just more than a minute left, and visiting Minnesota beat Portland.

Nick Van Exel scored 26 for the Blazers, who have lost six of their last eight.

Nuggets 94, Hornets 93: Carmelo Anthony scored 17 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, while Marcus Camby had three of his seven blocks, three of his 10 rebounds and a steal during that final stretch to lead Denver to a win over visiting New Orleans.

Pistons 94, Warriors 88: Tayshaun Prince had 23 points, six rebounds and forced a turnover with under 20 seconds to help visiting Detroit hold off Golden State.

Baron Davis had 10 points and eight assists in his Warriors debut.

Clippers 111, Hawks 104: Corey Maggette scored a game-high 25 points and Bobby Simmons added 24 more to lead Los Angeles past visiting Atlanta.
