Hornets win third off Davis’ big night
Baron Davis had his first triple-double in more than two seasons, helping the New Orleans Hornets end their 10-game losing streak with a 121-117 overtime victory over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night in New Orleans.
Davis scored 26 points, tied a career high with 17 assists and grabbed his 10th rebound late in overtime to ice the Hornets’ third win of the season.
Davis’ final rebound came after a missed free throw by teammate P.J. Brown with 17 seconds left and with the Hornets leading 119-115. Davis then drew a foul – waving his arms to the delight of a crowd that had stood since late in the fourth quarter – and hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds to go.
Cavaliers 104, Knicks 79: At Cleveland, LeBron James hit his first eight shots and scored 22 points to power Cleveland past New York. Lucious Harris scored a season-high 16 points as Cleveland had five players in double figures. Tim Thomas scored 17 points for New York, which has dropped four consecutive games.
Spurs 99, Nuggets 90: At San Antonio, Bruce Bowen held Carmelo Anthony in check and made three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help San Antonio beat Denver. Anthony was limited to eight points on 4-for-15 shooting. Manu Ginobili scored 22 points for the Spurs, while Tony Parker had 20 and Tim Duncan 19.
Wizards 117, Timberwolves 114: At Washington, Gilbert Arenas scored seven of his season-high 40 points in the final 2:19 to lead Washington over Minnesota. Larry Hughes had 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Wizards. Antawn Jamison added 23 points and 10 rebounds for Washington. Kevin Garnett finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds for the Timberwolves.
Magic 104, Nets 101: At Orlando, Fla., Grant Hill scored 22 points as Orlando held off New Jersey. The Nets’ Jason Kidd had 22 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for his first triple-double of the season and 60th of his career.
Bucks 89, Jazz 86: Michael Redd scored 26 points, including two clinching free throws with 4.8 seconds left, and Milwaukee sent visiting Utah to its ninth straight loss. Carlos Boozer had 28 points on 12-for-17 shooting and eight rebounds for Utah.
Bulls 102, Celtics 91: At Chicago, Kirk Hinrich scored 22 points and tied a career high with 14 assists as Chicago beat Boston. Othella Harrington, in a rare start, matched a season high with 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds for the Bulls, who surged ahead with a 13-0 third-quarter run. Paul Pierce scored 20 for Boston.
Mavericks 121, Pacers 101: At Dallas, the Mavericks made a franchise-best 74.3 percent of its shots in the first half and cruised to a victory over Indiana. Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 34 points and 13 rebounds and Michael Finley added a season-high 33.
Suns 108, Clippers 91: Joe Johnson scored 23 points as visiting Phoenix routed Los Angeles to match its victory total for last season after just 33 games. Shawn Marion had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns. Bobby Simmons has 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers.
Off the court
Cleveland activated center-forward Scott Williams and put center DeSagana Diop on the injured list with a bruised left elbow. In addition, first-round draft pick Luke Jackson remained on the team’s injured list with back spasms that could sideline him for the season. … Golden State Warriors forward Eduardo Najera had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Friday. Najera is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks.
