More coverage for GU women

The Spokesman-Review

As avid Gonzaga basketball fans, we are disappointed with the coverage of the women’s team. The men’s team is often published on the front page, which we enjoy. However, the women’s team is harder to find. Being a fan of both the men’s and women’s teams, we enjoy reading both, but believe the women deserve improved coverage. On Jan. 8, Gonzaga’s women beat Saint Mary’s, 74-50. It was an outstanding win. Yet on the front page of The Spokesman-Review I was struck by the words “St. Mary’s trips Zags,” referring only to the men’s team. No coverage of the women’s WIN appeared until page C6. Although, small and without a photograph, we enjoyed this well-written article about a man our family truly admires, coach Kelly Graves. He prides himself with an incredibly disciplined, talented team that provides great role models. Our family attends all of the home games for both teams and we truly enjoy the sportsmanship they display. The women are picked to win the WCC and are 13-2 on the year. Congratulation to BOTH teams and their success so far this season. Coach Kelly Graves, his dynamic coaching staff, and his players deserve bigger and better coverage.
