Leavitt scores twice as Silvertips fend off Chiefs
Mon., Jan. 17, 2005
EVERETT – The Spokane Chiefs have made four trips to Everett this season and left town with four tallies in the loss column.
Alex Leavitt scored a pair of goals, and the Silvertips turned back Spokane 3-1 in Western Hockey League play on Sunday at the Everett Event Center.
The Chiefs (15-21-7-1), however, accomplished something this trip they hadn’t done previously. They grabbed a lead against Everett (21-16-6-2), although it was a brief one.
Jeff Lynch found the net just 1:21 into the match, with assists from Chad Klassen and Derek Ryan, to stake Spokane to a 1-0 lead.
It lasted just 1:16.
Torrie Wheat pulled the Silvertips even on a power-play goal at the 2:37 mark of the first period and Leavitt gave Everett the lead for good on a power-play score 9:01 into the second.
Leavitt capped the scoring with an empty-netter with 1:52 left to play.
The Chiefs return home for a four-game stand beginning Friday night at 7 against Everett. Spokane is 1-0-1 against the Silvertips at home. The Tri-City Americans hit the Arena on Saturday night at 7.
