There’s a reason they practice shooting free throws during every practice session.

Moscow made its most important points at the free-throw line Thursday to earn a 41-35 Inland Empire League girls basketball victory at Post Falls.

The Trojans were forced to foul in the final 1 1/2 minutes, but the Bears were 8 of 9 from the line.

Jacki Calhoun and Alissa Hart combined for 27 points to spark Moscow (8-10, 4-6).

Sean Topp shot 7 for 10 from the floor to score 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Post Falls (2-15, 0-10).

Lake City 46, Lewiston 37: The Timberwolves took control in the first quarter, taking a 17-3 lead. Lake City went nine deep on its bench and had eight players contribute to the offense. Neither team had a player score in double figures. Breanna Sande had five points and six steals for LC (10-7, 7-3). Lewiston (8-9, 4-5) got eight points from Kristi Packer.

Vikings double up Bonners Ferry

Coeur d’Alene defeated the host Badgers 62-31 at Bonners Ferry. The Vikings took a 24-6 lead after one quarter and cruised, hitting 19 of 21 shots from the free-throw line. Lindsey Stark had 16 points, and Jenna Griffitts added 10 points and seven rebounds for Coeur d’Alene (14-3). Becky Lowther had 14 points to lead the Badgers (7-6). … Wallace 64, Kellogg 53: Kellogg got within three points in the fourth quarter, but the Miners hit 11 of 14 from the free-throw line in the final quarter to preserve the home win. Krista Williams and Lisa Carver both scored 13 points to lead Wallace (13-3). Jamie Brower canned 19 to lead Kellogg (8-8).

CdA nips Badgers in OT

Coeur d’Alene forced overtime with a 17-6 run in the fourth quarter at Bonners Ferry, then shot 2 of 3 from the free-throw line in the extra period to score a 56-53 non-league victory. Jake and Joe Wolfe each put up 13 points to lead the Vikings (7-6). Bonners Ferry (4-10) collected 10 steals but committed 23 turnovers.

Greg’s 22 lift Lewiston

Bo Greg scored 14 of his 22 points in the first quarter to spark Lewiston to a 61-41 victory over visiting Lake City. Greg drilled 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range for the Bengals (5-6, 2-3). Kory Kreighbaum had 10 points to lead the Timberwolves (8-6, 2-4).

Lakeside boards, steals win

Lakeside collected 12 steals to earn a 70-36 victory over host Kootenai at Harrison. The Knights (13-1, 6-0) outrebounded Kootenai 31-18 and shot 65 percent from the field, led by Tim Wolfe’s 22 points. Kootenai (1-10, 1-3) got 14 points from Justin Thomas.

Lumberjacks pin Kellogg

Every one of St. Maries’ winning wrestlers did so by pinfall, leading the Lumberjacks to a 60-13 Intermountain League victory over visiting Kellogg. Senior Kyle Payne, St. Maries’ 119-pounder, earned his 100th career victory in the night’s final match.

Bonners Ferry nips Lakeland

Lakeland had to forfeit the final two weights of the night, 215 and 275 pounds, handing a 39-37 victory to Bonners Ferry. But the Hawks swept all three matches of their abbreviated match with Moscow, which has only three wrestlers. … Priest River 42, Timberlake 28: The Spartans took control in the middle weight classes. Sean Williams’ pin at the end of the second round of the 140-pound match started a string of four straight wins, all by pinfall. Dan Boone scored a first-round pin at 145; Ray Hinshaw did the same at 152.
