Senior trio guides win for Pirates

Seniors Tiffany Speer, Sarah Shogren and Dani Bielec combined for 48 points Friday to power Whitworth to a 70-42 win over visiting Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference play.

The Pirates (13-1, 4-1) are ranked as high as 15th nationally.

Shogren had a game-high 19 points along with 10 rebounds.

Speer added 16 points and Bielec 13.

The fourth senior starter, point guard Wenchi Liu, dished out 10 assists, one coming on a half-court bounce pass through traffic leading to a Bielec layup.

The Pioneers (5-8, 1-3), who shot 29 percent from the floor, were led by a reserve. Freshman Crystal Castle came of the bench to hit 7 of 13 shots en route to 17 points.
