Washington and Arizona were the only two teams to receive first-place votes in the preseason Pac-10 poll, so it’s fitting that the Huskies and Wildcats will square off tonight at Tucson tied for first at 6-1. Washington knocked off Arizona three times last season. Tonight’s 5:30 game could go a long way toward determining which team claims the regular-season crown. … Stanford’s Dan Grunfeld is on a roll, claiming last week’s Pac-10 player of the week honors. The junior forward is second in the conference with 18.6 points a game. … Oregon State coach Jay John said he’s feeling much better after missing a game last week following his hypertension episode in Washington. John has returned to assume his normal duties, but with some diet and exercise modifications. … California guard Richard Midgely is still struggling with a right shoulder sprain that forced him out of both games last week. … UCLA coach Ben Howland is spending the week working on his zone offense after Cal surprised and befuddled the Bruins with a zone last week. Howland said he’s grateful to have a week to make adjustments before his team faces USC on Saturday.
