Springdale fund-raiser to help twice-stricken family

Volunteers will sell Indian tacos today in Springdale to raise money for a school board member and her daughter, who were recently stricken by cancer.

Mary Walker School Board member Amanda Thomas, 57, learned last week, after having a tumor removed from her brain, that the cancer had spread to her liver. At the same time, she learned that one of her three grown children, Becky Thomas, had just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amanda Thomas has worked for the nearby Valley School District for 21 years as a bus driver and transportation supervisor. Becky Thomas is a single mother with two children.

The fund-raiser will be at the Mary Walker High School in Springdale, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Meals are $5 for adults, $3 for older children, or $20 per family. Children 5 and younger may eat for free. Donations to the Thomas Family Fund may be made at any Bank of America branch.
