Cougars tighten GNL standings
Cameron Stroyan hit 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter Saturday as Chewelah handed Pullman its first Great Northern League loss, 65-53 at Chewelah.
The Cougars (9-6, 4-3) were 15 of 19 from the line in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Stroyan finished with 15 points to lead three Chewelah scorers in double figures.
Kyle Hinrichs scored 11 for the Greyhounds (10-4, 5-1). Pullman leads idle Riverside by one-half game.
Medical Lake 44, Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls 37: Tanner Tareski pumped in 15 points and Steven Wesley added 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Cardinals (11-3, 4-3). Alex Stillar had 13 points to lead the Eagles (8-6, 4-2).

Crusaders shoot past Panthers
Northwest Christian scored 49 points in the middle two quarters to take an 82-60 win over visiting Valley Christian at Colbert. Karl Richardson had five steals and scored 19 points, and Josh Greer added 20 points to lead the Crusaders (15-2, 12-2). Vitaliy Kozubenko had 17 points to lead the Panthers (9-7, 8-6). … Lind-Ritzville 76, Odessa 62: The Broncos led the visiting Tigers by more than 20 points in the fourth quarter. Cameron Stevenson scored 27 points to lead L-R (16-0, 14-0). Drake Costlow poured in 35 points to lead Odessa (4-12, 4-10). …Wilbur-Creston 52, Reardan 42: The Wildcats earned the road win by taking a 38-21 advantage on the boards. Nenema drives Cusick to win
James Nenema drove the length of the floor to score with 12 seconds left to lift Cusick to a 51-50 win at St. George’s. Nenema finished with 24 points and 10 boards to lead the Panthers (6-13, 5-8). Davis Vaughn had 18 points to lead the Dragons (9-9, 7-3). … Wellpinit 75, Northport 38: The Redskins used a 45-21 rebounding edge to earn the home win over the Mustangs. Jake Green’s 22 points led Wellpinit (10-8, 8-5). Sam Burke paced the Mustangs (5-12, 2-10) with 11 points. … Columbia-Hunters 77, Curlew 67: The host Lions received 33 points from Nick Kegel and 20 from Tyrel Sampson to pull off the upset of the visiting Cougars. Vikings hang on in OT
Try as they might, the Colton Wildcats couldn’t get over the hump against visiting Garfield-Palouse, falling 85-84 in overtime during a high-scoring game at Colton, The Wildcats trailed by 23 points early in the second half, but rallied to force OT by scoring 54 points in the second half – 34 in the fourth quarter alone. Kyle Schultheis posted 23 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists to lead Colton (6-12, 2-8). Colton’s Joe Smetana added 20 points. Nels Iverson led Gar-Pal (12-6, 7-3) with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Louden added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Vikings, and Garrett Parrish contributed 16 points and 10 assists. … Asotin 63, St. John-Endicott 57: The visiting Panthers (14-5, 7-4) hit four 3-pointers and 13 of 18 from the line to top the Eagles (10-8, 4-6). Asotin pulled within one-half game of second-place Gar-Pal. SJE’s Kurt Bowen had 12 rebounds. The Eagles shot 23 of 58 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers.

Scotties stymie Nighthawks
Freeman limited Tekoa-Oakesdale to 13 points in the second half of its 56-30 home win. Malcolm Soelberg pumped in 17 points and Bryan Riggs added 12 to lead the Scotties (15-2), the No. 3-ranked Class 1A team in Washington. The Nighthawks (15-3), the No. 5-ranked Class B team in the state, were led by Tyler Young’s nine points while leading scorer, Derek Flock, was held to four points. … Colville 62, Kettle Falls 59: The Indians hit 10 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the host Bulldogs. Brant Olson scored 18 points to lead Colville (4-11). The Bulldogs (10-8) got 13 points from Jason Azzarito.

Taylor lifts Brewster
Michael Taylor, son of Brewster coach Tim Taylor, rescued the Bears by picking up a loose ball and burying a 3-pointer from just inside midcourt for a 59-56 win over host Lake Roosevelt at Coulee Dam. Hawkins Gebbers (30) and Taylor (27) combined for 57 Brewster points. Nick Barnaby led four players in double figures to lead the Raiders.
