Need better lawn bowling facility

The Spokesman-Review

Fellow Spokanites: This is a great city with a myriad of accomplishments such as our symphony, the Davenport Hotel, several theaters, beautiful golf courses, Spokane Indians baseball and Spokane Chiefs hockey. But in the sport of lawn bowling, although Spokane is the heart of the Inland Empire, small British Columbia towns such as Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon surpass us in lawn bowling greens. They have 125 x 125 greens so they can play in both directions. In contrast, Spokane’s green measures 122 x 95, with the result that we can play in only one direction.

The location of the present green, which is located south of Witter Pool and uses the 1912 bathhouse as its clubhouse, is extremely isolated, no doubt contributing to its five break-ins with dire results in 2004 and one early in 2005.

Surely one of our many parks could house a new lawn bowling green. Please consider this request.
