Writer’s workshop planned in Sandpoint

The Lost Horse Press in Sandpoint is presenting a writer’s workshop with local writer Peter Chilson July 16 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Oden Hall, 143 Sunnyside Road, Sandpoint.

Chilson will discuss “Crossing the Boundaries of Genre: How Fiction and Nonfiction Complement Each Other,” and the workshop is open to writers of all levels of fiction and nonfiction.

The cost is $50.

After the workshop, Chilson will present a free reading of his works at 7 p.m., also at Oden Hall.

“Local artist Jo Anne Nixon of Spokane had her transparent watercolors featured in the book “Northwest Artists,” a coffee table collection of works by 200 notable Northwest artists. This book is available at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and at the Angel Gallery in Coeur d’Alene.

Classes and workshops

“Aspiring playwrights can attend PlayMakers, an ongoing workshop next Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Barnes & Noble, 15310 E. Indiana Ave.

The class will discuss “Notes from the Last Frontier.” Group leader Sandra Hosking attended the 13th Annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska, and will share the tidbits and exercises she learned there.

“The Tinman Gallery, 811 W. Garland Ave., is offering the following classes for adults and children: For adults: “Make It and Take It,” primarily for adults, Tuesday and July 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. The first class a will teach you how to make comic book cards. The second will show you how to make accordion cards. The cost of each class is $10.

At a silver charms class July 13 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., jeweler Deb Ellis will discuss how to work with metal clay; cost is $25; a Painted Furniture Workshop will be July 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sue Bradley will discuss preparing the furniture and applying faux finishes to wood furniture.

For children: Learn how to make your own bug boxes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The cost is $10 and includes materials and live pet ladybugs. Giacometti sculptures will have kids working with papier mâché and wire hangers, July 16, 10 a.m. to noon, $10.

“Monart Drawing School is offering day camps for children ages 4 and older during the next two weeks at Spokane Art Supply, 1303 N. Monroe St.

For children ages 4 and 5: Flowers and plants drawing class, July 12 through 14 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or from 1 to 3 p.m. The school is also offering a class that will discuss drawing cats and dogs, July 19 through 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost for each class is $65.

For children ages 6 and up: Learn to draw creepy crawly creatures, July 12 through 14. Children ages 6 through 8, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and children 9 and older, 1 to 3 p.m.

July 19 through 21, kids can learn to draw exotic Egypt. Children ages 6 through 8, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; children 9 and older, 1 to 3 p.m. The cost for any of these classes is $65.
