Myers earns first career win
MADISON, Ind. – J.W. Myers drove the Miss Elam Plus to victory in the Indiana Governor’s Cup on Sunday to complete a three-day domination of the Madison Regatta for unlimited hydroplanes.
Myers, the fastest qualifier, swept all three heats before capturing the final at 135.245 mph for his first career victory.
Myers had a strong start and led the field through the first turn. Jimmy King in the Master Tire gave chase for 2 1/2 laps and finished second at 133.449.
“We had some problems with our top-end speed,” King said. “It turned great, it handled great, we just didn’t have much top end.”
Steve David in the Oh Boy! Oberto-Miss Madison was third following a three-lap duel with Jean Theoret that ended when the Llumar Window Film hydroplane’s engine gave out.
