Rigsby sparks Blue Devils past Reds
Billy Rigsby hit 5 for 5, accounting for half of the Spokane Blue Devils’ hits in a 9-7 victory over the Idaho Falls Reds (3-1-1) on Sunday night in the American Legion Senior 4th of July Tournament at Whitworth College.
The Blue Devils (4-1), who also defeated Budd Bay Embroidery of Olympia 6-2 earlier in the day, clinched a spot in today’s 1:30 p.m. championship game at A.K. Jackson Field against the Spokane Northstars, who beat the Great Falls (Mont.) Electrics 6-0.
The Northstars won their early game, defeating the South Hill Ravens of Puyallup 4-2. Cameron Joslyn led the Northstars with a double.
The El Segundo (Calif.) Blues (3-2) and Budd Bay (2-2-1) will play in the third/fourth place game at 11 a.m. The Blues defeated the Trail (B.C.) Blue Jays (2-3) 5-4, while Budd Bay defeated Post Falls (2-3) 5-1 before their loss to the Blue Devils.
In other senior action, Jesse Brubaker of Post Falls hit a home run in a five-inning, 13-4 win over Everett (1-4) at Whitworth … Kalispell also defeated Everett 4-3 … The Riley Creek Lakers of Sandpoint (2-2-1) earned a split on the day at Jackson Field, falling to the Blue Jays 9-4 before a 3-1 win over the Ravens (1-4).
•Coeur d’Alene and Ferris will meet in today’s Junior 4th of July Tournament 1:30 p.m. championship game at West Valley High School. North Central and West Valley will precede them in the third/fourth game at 11 a.m.
•The Spokane Bandits dominated the senior Kamloops (B.C.) Tournament, defeating Calgary 12-2 in the semifinal and Edmonton 20-0 in five innings in the championship game. Chris Bozo and Billy Karwacki each drove in four RBIs in the title game, and Andy Greenslit threw a one-hitter on just 40 pitches.
