Orioles 3, Red Sox 1 (6): At Baltimore, Eli Marrero and Melvin Mora homered, and Sammy Sosa added his first RBI since June 19 as Baltimore defeated Boston in a game called after six innings because of rain.

Yankees 7, Indians 2: At New York, Jason Giambi homered for the third straight game and 20-year-old Melky Cabrera singled in his major league debut as New York defeated Cleveland. Alex Rodriguez homered for the second straight game, tying Boston’s Manny Ramirez and Texas’ Mark Teixeira for the league lead with 22.

Blue Jays 4, Athletics 2: At Toronto, Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer to help Toronto defeat Oakland and win for the sixth time in eight games.

Tigers 6, Devil Rays 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Magglio Ordonez homered for the third time since coming off the disabled list last week, and Chris Shelton added a two-run shot as Detroit handed Tampa Bay its ninth straight loss.

Royals 8, Twins 5: At Kansas City, Mo., Angel Berroa went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and scored twice to lead Kansas City over Minnesota. Nick Punto homered and had four hits for Minnesota.

National League

Mets 3, Nationals 2 (11): At Washington, Mike Piazza went 3 for 5 and drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning, giving New York a win over Washington and handing the Nationals their first home series loss since April.

Marlins 11, Brewers 3: At Miami, pinch-hitter Carlos Delgado capped a six-run fifth inning with his 10th career grand slam, leading Florida to a win over Milwaukee.

Braves 6-9, Cubs 0-4: At Atlanta, Andruw Jones hit his major league-leading 27th home run, and rookie Jeff Francoeur added a three-run shot in a six-run eighth inning to give Atlanta a doubleheader sweep over Chicago. Horacio Ramirez pitched his first career shutout in the opener.

Rockies 8, Dodgers 5: At Denver, Colorado first baseman Todd Helton broke the franchise record for home runs in the sixth inning with a shot to the upper deck at Coors Field, then broke a tie in the seventh with a three-run homer to defeat Los Angeles.

Pirates 2, Phillies 1: At Pittsburgh, rookie left-hander Zach Duke pitched seven shutout innings for his first major league victory and Humberto Cota hit a two-run homer to lead Pittsburgh over Philadelphia.

Padres 7, Astros 5: At Houston, Ramon Hernandez capped a six-run fifth inning with a two-run single in his first game back from the disabled list, and San Diego ended a three-game losing streak with a win over Houston.

Diamondbacks 2, Cardinals 1: At Phoenix, Luis Gonzalez led off the ninth inning with a walk-off home run, snapping Arizona’s six-game home losing skid with a win over St. Louis.

Giants 5, Reds 1: At San Francisco, Mike Matheny hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and added an RBI double in the seventh to lead San Francisco past Cincinnati.
