Twinkie was an outdoor farm animal in her prior home. She had no obedience training and didn’t play well with other critters. She chased horses, chickens and cats. Her hunting game may have been a sign of boredom for this 40-pound, red-coated pup. Once placed in foster care, she was bright enough to master housebreaking lessons in two days and learned to leave cats alone.

Heelers are bred to herd and nip, so a home with small children isn’t recommended, although foster home volunteers find Twinkie to be friendlier than most of her breed. She loves to please and would do best in a home where there’s a “job” for her.
