Still time to register for ‘Where The Fun Grows’

The Spokesman-Review

Open Class exhibitors intending to enter one or all of the six new “Where The Fun Grows” special contests are reminded to get their pre-registration forms in to the fair office no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 1. Because of the unique nature of these contests, all entries must be pre-registered using the entry form in the Fair Exhibitor’s Handbook. Late entries will not be accepted.

Class 1 is the “Fun Grows On The Christmas Tree” decorating contest that is sponsored by the Kootenai Medical Center Foundation. Exhibitors are asked to decorate a 2- or 3-foot-tall tree that they supply with a minimum number of ornaments, garland/trim, tree topper and skirt of any medium.

Scarecrow builders can enter Class 2, the “What A Silly Scarecrow” contest sponsored by the Post Falls Lions Club. The scarecrow must be sturdily constructed on a maximum 4-foot tall frame with a head. As an added incentive, the first-place winner will also be displayed in the Post Falls Lions Club’s Haunted House in October.

The Coeur d’Alene Shrine Club sponsors Class 3, the “All Dressed Up & Ready For Fun” costume contest. This can be a Halloween costume or one that can be used in a play and must include all props, such as hat/headpiece, cape, hand and foot wear, mask, etc.

The Class 4 “Be My Funny Valentine” contest, sponsored by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber Commodores, is a three-part entry. Exhibitors are asked to decorate the lid of a heart- or other shaped box in a humorous Valentine motif, create a comical handmade Valentine card and prepare a bouquet of silk or dried flowers.

Presents that are “Too Funny To Open” can be entered in Class 5, the present-decorating contest sponsored by the North Idaho Building Contractors Association. Simply take a box and decorate it in a funny manner.

Those ladies with the funny hats, the Red Hot Mamas, sponsor Class 6, the “Knee-Slapping Side-Splitting Funny” hat contest. Exhibitors start with a ready-made hat and transform it into a wildly funny creation.

Cash awards and special rosette ribbons will be given in each class. First place gets $15 and blue ribbon; second place receives $10 and a red ribbon; and third place gets $5 and a white ribbon. All nonplacing entries will receive a participation ribbon.

Details for all six contests are outlined in the Exhibitor’s Handbook, available now at the fair office and at 70 distribution locations in the area. It is also posted on the fair’s Web site at www.northidahofair.com.
