Shadow shuffle past Rangers

The Spokane Shadow took control of the match in the first half and breezed to a 3-1 victory over the Abbottsford Rangers in Premier Development League soccer action on Saturday night in Abbottsford, British Columbia.

The Shadow (8-4), second in the Northwest Division standings, took a 2-0 lead into the half on goals by Jake Moug and Scott Campbell.

Brett Hite capped the scoring for Spokane with a goal in the second half.

The cellar-dwelling Rangers fell to 2-12 on the season.

Abbottsford and Spokane square off again this afternoon at 2.

The Shadow return home on Saturday to take on the division-leading Cascade Surge in their final home game of the regular season.

Auto racing

It took Mother Nature to cool off Kevin Richards.

The Spokane driver had his three-race winning streak temporarily halted when rain washed out Saturday’s Inland Northwest Superstock race at Stateline Speedway.

The next race at Stateline is slated for July 23.

•The Northwest Modifieds suffered through its seventh rainout in nine races when action was postponed at Spokane Raceway Park.

The series resumes in Boise on July 29-30.
