Red Sox 17, Yankees 1: At Boston, Trot Nixon hit a three-run, inside-the-park homer and drove in five runs, and David Ortiz hit a grand slam as Boston beat New York 17-1 for the second time this season.

Tigers 4, Royals 1: At Detroit, Ivan Rodriguez hit a two-run homer and Nate Robertson won for the first time in nine home starts in 2005 as Detroit beat Kansas City.

White Sox 7, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Freddy Garcia pitched seven strong innings to improve to 6-0 in his last 11 starts, and Pablo Ozuna had a career-high four hits to lead Chicago over Cleveland.

Blue Jays 11, Devil Rays 6: At Toronto, Shea Hillenbrand homered to highlight a six-run third inning and Toronto ended a four-game losing streak with a win over Tampa Bay.

Angels 3, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Darin Erstad had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run, and Steve Finley drove in a run and stole a homer from Joe Mauer with a leaping catch above the center-field wall for Los Angeles in a win over Minnesota.

Athletics 7, Rangers 2: At Oakland, Barry Zito took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and Jay Payton hit a two-run homer on his first swing for surging Oakland in a win over Texas.

National League

Cubs 11, Pirates 1: At Chicago, Jerry Hairston hit his first career grand slam, and Aramis Ramirez added a three-run shot for Chicago, who had 16 hits in a win over Pittsburgh.

Marlins 9, Phillies 7: At Philadelphia, Miguel Cabrera had four hits, Alex Gonzalez added three and Paul Lo Duca homered to lead Florida’s 17-hit attack in a win over Philadelphia.

Braves 2, Mets 1: At New York, John Smoltz won his first matchup against former teammate Tom Glavine, and Wilson Betemit hit an RBI single in the eighth to lead Atlanta over New York.

Reds 4, Rockies 3: At Cincinnati, Ken Griffey Jr. hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the sixth and had a key outfield assist at home plate in the eighth to lead Cincinnati over Colorado.

Brewers 4, Nationals 3 (10): At Milwaukee, Mike Stanton, making his Washington debut, balked home the winning run in the 10th before throwing a pitch, giving Milwaukee the victory.

Cardinals 4, Astros 3 (13): At St. Louis, Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer off Chad Harville in the bottom of the 13th inning to lead St. Louis over Houston.

Padres 10, Diamondbacks 7: At San Diego, Mark Sweeney had a home run among his three hits and Damian Jackson had three RBIs to lead San Diego over Arizona.

Giants 6, Dodgers 0: At Los Angeles, Noah Lowry took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and Ray Durham had season highs with four hits and four RBIs to lead San Francisco over Los Angeles.
