GU’s Morrison withdraws
Gonzaga University junior Adam Morrison has withdrawn from the USA Basketball U21 National Team Trials because of summer school commitments.
Morrison was one of three invitees who were unable to participate, joining Rodney Carney (Memphis), who suffered a rib injury, and Malik Hairston (Oregon), who pulled his groin.
University of Arkansas guard Ronnie Brewer and Temple guard Mardy Collins have been added to the 2005 USA U21 Men’s National Team Trials roster. Brewer and Collins join an already impressive list of the nation’s top 21-and-unders (born on or after Jan. 1, 1984) who will attend the USA Basketball Men’s U21 National Team Trials Thursday through Saturday in Dallas, Texas.
“I have talked to Coach (Phil) Martelli and USA Basketball officials and explained Adam’s situation,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. “Although he is in good academic standing with the university, Adam is taking summer school classes. Many of our student-athletes do so to ease the in-season academic load. While he believed he would be able to juggle both the academic and USA Basketball commitments this summer, as it drew nearer to the trials he reazlied he could not complete all of his academic projects in a timely manner and still be involved in the trials.”
