UI signs Divilbiss through 2010

Mike Divilbiss, head women’s basketball coach at the University of Idaho, has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him at Idaho through the 2009-10 season.

“Mike has made tremendous progress with our women’s basketball program and it was critical for us to reward him with a long-term contract,” Idaho Director of Athletics Rob Spear said.

The details of the contract were not released, however the new contract is structured with incentives for academic success, attendance, and team performance.

“I am extremely excited about the commitment the University of Idaho has made to me and to my family and we truly appreciate their support,” Divilbiss said. “This contract will allow me to honor commitments I have made to my players about being their coach.”

The Vandals are 62-53 in Divilbiss’ four-year tenure and have reached the championship game of the Big West Conference tournament in each of the past two seasons.

•Washington State University head baseball coach Donnie Marbut announced the addition of pitching coach Gregg Swenson to the Cougar staff.

Swenson, who began his WSU tenure last month, replaces three-year assistant Ryan Brust. Swenson comes to Washington State after serving as an assistant coach at cross-state rival Washington since 2001.

Junior golf

Annie Brophy of Spokane shot a 73, following her first-round score of 78, for a two-round total of 151 to advance at the USGA Junior women’s national amateur golf tournament in Eagle, Idaho.

•Nick Grigsby of MeadowWood and Katrina Bech of Esmeralda led a group of qualifiers into the Washington State Junior golf tournament after two days of play at the University of Idaho course.
