B&B offers tranquil setting at Deer Lake

Sandra Lochner has the perfect place for those who want to get away.

It’s about 35 miles north of Spokane, set on lakefront property with great places for long walks or just flat-out relaxation.

It’s called the North Woods Bed & Breakfast on Deer Lake. The log cabin inn is newly renovated and owned by Lochner and her husband, Jerry Lochner.

“I wanted to start a business, and it was the perfect business. It’s absolutely breathtaking out here,” said Sandra Lochner, who opened the B&B last summer but is getting up to full speed this summer.

The Lochners’ place was built by Sandra’s grandparents in the 1920s. However, the house and land was not owned by the family until the Lochners bought it back three years ago.

The inn has four bedrooms in the main house and two in separate cabins, all with private baths. Aside from the original structure, three log walls and a rock fireplace, Sandra Lochner said, the inn has undergone major renovations.

Prices range from $125 to $135 per night, which includes a big country breakfast and an evening snack.

Sower Bible Bookstore changes hands

Scott Wigton made a vow to the faithful customers of the Sower Bible Bookstore. He promised to keep the prices at the Christian supply store the same as they had been under longtime owner Hal Greene.

Wigton, who took over the business at 5023 N. Addison St., in the spring, said he’s actually gone one step beyond by “deepening the discounts even more.”

New Bibles, for example, are 20 percent off compared to the old price of 15 percent off.

Wigton’s also kept Greene’s staff, many of whom have worked at the store for years. Originally from Durango, Colo., Wigton moved to Spokane by way of Phoenix.

An apparent jack-of-all-trades, Wigton also sells a pasta sauce product called Wigton Organic Paradise, which comes complete with a gospel message displayed on the back.

The bookstore hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., an extension of the former hours.
