Mormons plan re-enactment

Members of the Spokane Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are celebrating their ancestors’ trek to the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1847, starting on Thursday and finishing next Saturday.

The youths of the church are re-enacting the Mormon pilgrimage by pushing hand-carts and wearing pioneer dress through the wilderness of North Idaho. They will be welcomed home next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., one mile north of Bumblebee Campground in North Idaho.

The site is 10 miles north of Interstate 90 from the Kingston exit. Those attending should bring lawn chairs or blankets, and umbrellas or canopies for shade.

Christian basketball camp

Halo Hoops Ministries is coming to Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, beginning Aug. 1.

The program blends basketball and Christian life skills for boys and girls ages 6 to 13.

Dave Davies, minister of senior high youth and recreation at Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington, N.C., and a former basketball player at Mead High School and with the Seattle Supersonics, will teach the fundamentals of basketball and discuss life skills, the gospel and the motivational word of the day.

A full-day camp runs Aug. 1 through 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $160.

There also will be a half-day camp Aug. 8 through 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Its cost is $75.

Fees include a T-shirt, basketball and gospel materials. Discounts are available for multiple family members.

Labyrinth walks

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is offering a labyrinth for walks and meditation Sunday at 7 p.m.

The carillon bells will accompany walkers.

Talent show

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., is presenting a talent show with root beer floats today from 7 to 9 p.m. as part of the church’s series of events to celebrate 125 years of worship.

The talent is from members of the church, and the root beer floats will be sold after the show for $1.25.

Christian comedy

First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division St., is hosting a Christian comedy troupe, Mr. Chapel, Wednesday at 7 p.m. and July 31 at 10 a.m.

Vacation Bible Schools

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd., is presenting Bible Boot Camp on Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for preschoolers, and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for children ages 5 through 12.

The cost is $5 per child, which includes a T-shirt, five dinners, snacks and crafts.

New Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3110 W. Francis Ave., is presenting a “Safari Adventure” vacation Bible school Monday through Friday from 6:30 tp 8:30 p.m.

Activities will include Bible stories, crafts, games and music. Dinner will be served each evening.

The week’s events will end Friday at 6 p.m. with a barbecue on the church lawn and a concert featuring Moko Jumbie.
