WSU to play in Spokane

The Washington State University men’s basketball team will play 14 of its 27 regular season games during the 2005-06 season against schools that participated in postseason play, in its newly announced schedule.

WSU will play 13 games in Pullman, two at the Spokane Arena, and one at Seattle’s KeyArena.

The Cougars will host BYU (Nov. 22) and Arizona (Dec. 29) in Spokane. In addition, WSU will square off against Utah (Dec. 22) at KeyArena in Seattle.

Other NCAA Tournament teams on this season’s schedule include games at Gonzaga, as well as home-and-home league matchups with Washington, UCLA and Stanford. WSU will also play NIT teams Arizona State and Oregon State in league home-and-home games.

The Pacific-10 Conference tournament, which for the first time since returning in 2003 will include all 10 teams, takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles, March 8-11.

Football

Whitworth College senior kicker Cameron Collings (Mead H.S.) has been named to the Street & Smith’s and D3football.com preseason All-America teams. Collings led Northwest Conference kickers in points.

Street & Smith’s also ranked the Pirates 25th in its national preseason Division III poll.

Baseball

The Spokane Riverhawks fell to the Bellingham Bells 2-1 in West Coast Collegiate League play at Spokane Falls Community College.

Bellingham (11-10) scored runs in the first and third innings. Spokane (6-19) rallied for a run in the bottom of the third, but the teams were scoreless the rest of the way.
