Royals 3, Yankees 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Emil Brown hit a two-run homer and Kansas City beat Randy Johnson for the first time in 12 years, handing New York its fourth straight loss.

Tigers 6, Rangers 4: At Detroit, Brandon Inge’s tiebreaking, two-run single in a five-run seventh inning lifted Detroit to a victory over red-hot Texas, snapping the Rangers’ nine-game winning streak.

Orioles 9, Red Sox 3: At Boston, Miguel Tejada and Sammy Sosa hit back-to-back homers and Geronimo Gil added a three-run shot as Baltimore beat Boston. Sosa’s blast was the 579th of his career, leaving him four behind Mark McGwire for sixth place on the all-time list.

Angels 10, White Sox 7: At Chicago, Dallas McPherson hit a go-ahead RBI double in a four-run seventh, and Los Angeles beat Chicago to avoid a three-game sweep.

Twins 6, Indians 2: At Minneapolis, Torii Hunter had a career-high five hits and matched his career best with six RBIs to lead Minnesota to a victory over Cleveland.

Athletics 11, Devil Rays 2: At Oakland, Calif., Eric Byrnes had a two-run triple and a season-high four RBIs, and Barry Zito snapped a five-start winless stretch, leading Oakland over Tampa Bay to complete a three-game sweep.

Pirates 9, Marlins 1: Rob Mackowiak hit his second career grand slam and drove in five runs and Pittsburgh defeated Florida for the ninth straight time in Pittsburgh.

Braves 5, Nationals 4: At Washington, late lineup addition Wilson Betemit hit a tying two-run homer and Marcus Giles capped an eighth-inning rally with an RBI single, lifting Atlanta over Washington.

Mets 2, Diamondbacks 1: At New York, Victor Zambrano took a shutout into the ninth, and Jose Reyes’ three stolen bases helped send New York to a victory over Arizona.

Phillies 10, Giants 6: At Philadelphia, pinch-hitter Chase Utley’s two-out grand slam in the eighth helped Philadelphia beat slumping San Francisco.

Astros 4, Reds 1: At Houston, Roy Oswalt improved to 14-0 against Cincinnati, as Houston picked up its fourth win in five games.

Cardinals 8, Rockies 6: At Denver, Mark Grudzielanek had four hits and two RBIs, and Matt Morris fought through six shaky innings to remain unbeaten in St. Louis’ victory over Colorado.

Brewers 5, Padres 2: At San Diego, Carlos Lee and Geoff Jenkins homered and Milwaukee brought San Diego back to reality after a 22-6 record in May.

Chicago 9, Los Angeles 5: At Los Angeles, Derrek Lee matched his career high with five hits, including a three-run homer, raising his major league-leading batting average to .380 and helping Chicago beat Los Angeles.
