Brewers will honor Uecker

Associated Press

NOTES

Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker reacted with his usual wry sense of humor over Milwaukee’s plans to honor his half century in baseball.

“Fifty years flies by when you have fun and love what you do,” Uecker said. “I am extremely fortunate to have been in baseball for my entire adult life, and I look forward to celebrating my 100th year in professional baseball in 2055.”

Uecker will be honored before the Aug. 27 game with Atlanta.

Marlins deadline passes

South Florida lawmakers and the Florida Marlins were unable to meet baseball’s deadline for a detailed update on the funding plans for a proposed ballpark in downtown Miami.

Major League Baseball chief operating officer Bob DuPuy has said the request was not a now-or-never ultimatum, just a strong reminder.
