Sun’s win streak reaches six

Associated Press

Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 17 points and Katie Douglas added 11 as the Connecticut Sun won their sixth straight, 78-69 over the San Antonio Silver Stars on Saturday night in San Antonio.

Connecticut improved to an Eastern Conference-best 6-1, while San Antonio dropped to a Western Conference-worst 2-7.

Margo Dydek, the league’s tallest player at 7-foot-2, added 10 points for the Sun, all in the first half. She also blocked two shots against her former team.

Dydek was dealt by San Antonio to Connecticut on a draft day in April. The Sun gave up Katie Feenstra, the No. 8 overall selection, and a first-round selection in next year’s draft in the trade.

The Sun hit 8 of 15 3-pointers.

Lynx 78, Mystics 60: At Minneapolis, Katie Smith scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Minnesota to a 78-60 win over Washington.

Smith made 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and Minnesota finished 10 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Svetlana Abrosimova added 13 points and six rebounds for the Lynx, who avenged last week’s loss to the Mystics.

“When (Smith)’s hitting, everyone can relax and shoot the ball,” Abrosimova said. “We have a sense of confidence when we step on the floor now. Our chemistry has improved tremendously.”

Alana Beard led Washington with 19 points and five rebounds and DeLisha Milton-Jones had 10 points.

Sparks 81, Monarchs 74: At Los Angeles, Chamique Holdsclaw and Tamika Whitmore combined for 40 points as Los Angeles defeated Sacramento.

Nikki Teasley added 11 points and six assists, and Lisa Leslie scored 10 points for the Sparks, who broke a two-game losing streak.

Yolanda Griffith had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Monarchs.
