Valley Electric remains unbeaten

The number of Spokane Valley Baseball League unbeatens was cut in half through the second week of the summer youth season.

Valley Electric, with one score unreported, is the only Giants League team with an unblemished record.

Three teams remain perfect in the Midget League, Gibson’s Nursery and River City Pizza in the American Division and Realty Rangers in the National.

And only two Pee Wee League teams are unbeaten, Tom’s Barber Shop in the American and Blasingame Insurance in the National. Six others, however, have but a single loss.

Valley Electric last week beat Autocraft 11-1 behind the pitching of Cameron Moore and Micha Haslett, and the hitting of Jeff Hiatt who homered, and Kyle Riordan. And the team also beat Home Run Construction 12-2.

Earlier the team had handed Mountain View 1 its only loss. But Mountain View bounced back with a pair of wins; Trevor Stroh striking out 12 and allowing two hits, while

Nick Bellomy

was 6-for-7 with two doubles and a home run, scoring four times. Jesse Perry was 6-for-8 and scored five runs.

Moving into contention was Blasingame Insurance, with a 19-5 win over Hurliman Heating, Barry Yount 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including a triple and home run.

And American On-Site Services won twice, Devon Thompson with five hits and Gavin Marcus with six.

Gibson’s Nursery remained on a tear, outscoring two teams 20-3 and improving to 4-0 in the Midget League American Division.

Matt Harper and Tyler Crawford pitched the wins, Crawford striking out 12 and allowing two hits in six innings.

Harper hit two home runs to drive in four runs in one win and Eric Palmer had three hits, including a double and homer. Crawford homered in the second win.

River City Pizza kept pace, Jacob Reynolds and Joey Lawrence combining for 13 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout victory over McDonald’s. Lawrence had six strikeouts in the other win. He and Aaron Christianson were each 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Realty Rangers outscored its two foes 51-3 for undisputed first in the National Division.

Elsewhere, Merit Electric’s Zach Allen and Zach Lundmark combined for 15 strikeouts. Valley Instant Printing’s Dustin Dach hit two triples and drove in six runs.

In the Pee Wee League, Tom’s Barber Shop leads Ginno Construction and Spokane Indians by a game after improving to 5-0 in the American Division. Garrett Kuntz struck out five batters in three innings and was 2-for-2 in victory over Walt’s Mailing.

Blasingame Insurance is 4-0 and leads four teams, including Schmitz Construction by a game in the National.

Last week Hunter Wells and Schmitz Construction’s Garrett Schmerer locked in a pitching duel, each striking out eight.

But Wells’ grand-slam homer in the fourth was the difference in Blasingame’s 4-0 victory. Schmerer was 2-for-2.

Carson Driskill also hit a grand slam in another Blasingame win.

In other games, Brandon Anderson and Brandon Stalker combined for 26 strikeouts in 5-1 and 6-1 wins by Spokane Indians.

Taylor Downey hit two home runs and drove in eight runs, while Ryan Wells went 5-for-6 and drove in four for Ginno Construction.

Three different pitchers, Nick Fleshman, Nathan Beres and Peter Chandler allowed no hits and averaged eight strikeouts during three separate turns for White Elephant. Quinton McDonald went 5-for-6 and drove in five runs during two of the wins.

Game of the week was Econo Landscaping’s 2-1 win over Walt’s Mailing. The teams were scoreless until the eighth inning.
