Usher, Keys win at Soul Train
Fresh off their Grammy success, Usher and Alicia Keys dominated this year’s Soul Train Awards with each winning two individual awards and sharing the prize for best R&B-soul single by a group or duo for their chart-topping duet “My Boo.”
R&B sensation Usher picked up the award for best male single for “Confessions Part II” at Monday’s ceremony, as well as the prize for best album by a male artist for “Confessions.”
Keys got a nod for the best female single for her hit “If I Ain’t Got You” and was honored for best female album for “The Diary of Alicia Keys.”
The two singers already shared a Grammy for “My Boo.” Keys won four Grammys last month, while Usher had three.
The Soul Train Awards, named after the long-running television show, honor recording artists in R&B, hip-hop, rap and gospel music. Winners are chosen by a group of radio station professionals, talent managers and performers.
Usher also earned an award for best dance cut for his work with rappers Ludacris & Lil Jon on “Yeah!”
Destiny’s Child received the award for album by a group or duo for “Destiny Fulfilled,” while sexy newcomer Ciara won for best new artist for her album “Goodies.”
Rapper Jay-Z picked up the award for best music video for “99 Problems.” The award for best gospel album went to “Live from Another Level” by Israel & New Breed.
