Many Web sites offer Broadway play information, tickets
Q: My 10-year-old daughter will be joining me on a trip to New York in June and is interested in seeing some of the city’s highlights, including a Broadway play. Can you recommend some trip-planning resources?
A: Start at NYC & Company (www.nycvisit.com), the Web site for the New York City Convention and Visitors Bureau. It has sample itineraries as well as a calendar of events, information for first-time visitors, recommended sights for families and a free visitors guide that can be ordered online or by calling (800) NYC-VISIT.
There are a number of ways to get your hands on Broadway tickets, but try the Broadway Line (www.livebroadway.com), the official Web site of Broadway, for a list of shows and to purchase tickets. Similar information is also available at www.broadway.com, a service of Theatre Direct International.
Other ways to get tickets: Visit the TKTS booth (www.tdf.org) when you arrive. It’s in Times Square (47th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue) and at South Street Seaport and offers same-day tickets to Broadway for up to half off. But you should queue up by 7:45 a.m. because lines form early.
Also, try the theater box offices. Returned or unsold seats are sometimes turned in, and you won’t have to pay service fees.
