Rangers 16, Athletics 7 (8 1/2 , rain): At Oakland, Calif., Mark Teixeira and Alfonso Soriano hit two-run homers in a seven-run fourth inning, and Texas routed Oakland to complete a three-game sweep.
Red Sox 4, Tigers 3: At Detroit, Kevin Youkilis hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning to lift Boston to a victory over Detroit.
Devil Rays 11, Yankees 8: At St. Petersburg, Fla., last-place Tampa Bay dropped New York to its lowest point in a decade. The Yankees are six games under .500 for the first time since after games of July 19, 1995, when they were 34-40.
Indians 5, Twins 4: At Minneapolis, Josh Bard’s ninth-inning home run lifted Cleveland past Minnesota.
White Sox 4, Royals 2: At Chicago, A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer and Chicago beat Kansas City for its fourth straight win.
National League
Braves 5, Marlins 2: At Atlanta, Tim Hudson took a shutout into the eighth inning, Chipper Jones homered in his return to the Atlanta lineup and the Braves beat Florida.
Padres 8, Rockies 7 (12): At San Diego, Ryan Klesko’s second homer tied the game in the ninth inning, and Miguel Ojeda singled in the winning run with two outs in the 12th as San Diego beat Colorado.
Diamondbacks 6, Giants 2: At Phoenix, Chris Snyder had a run-scoring double that capped a four-run fourth inning and made a key pickoff throw, leading Arizona over San Francisco.
Cardinals 7, Reds 3: At Cincinnati, Scott Rolen returned from a sore back and hit a two-run homer, sparking St. Louis to a victory and three-game sweep of Cincinnati.
Mets 3, Phillies 2: At New York, Jae Seo pitched one-hit ball for seven shutout innings, and streaking slugger Cliff Floyd homered and made an outstanding catch that saved two runs to lead New York past Philadelphia.
Pirates 6, Astros 3: At Houston, Daryle Ward hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth, Jason Bay followed with a two-run shot and the Houston bullpen blew another win for Roger Clemens in a loss to Pittsburgh.
Brewers 4, Cubs 3: At Milwaukee, Damian Miller drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the ninth inning, giving Milwaukee its sixth consecutive victory, over Chicago.
Nationals 5, Dodgers 2: At Los Angeles, Livan Hernandez pitched his first complete game of the season, Nick Johnson had a homer and an RBI single, and Washington beat Los Angeles.
