Manito Presbyterian honors moms

Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave., is celebrating Mother’s Day with two special events.

Today at 4 p.m., the church is offering a service to comfort mothers who may be mourning the loss of a child through death, custody battles or other means.

Anyone who is in need of child care for this service or has questions can call Pamela Starbuck at 838-3559.

The church also is hosting the Prairie Bible College’s Ambassador Choir in a Mother’s Day concert Sunday at 7 p.m. The 26-member choir is from Three Hills, Alberta.

Mother’s Day concert

Plymouth Congregational Church, 1502 W. Eighth Ave., is presenting William Harness during the church’s 10 a.m. service Sunday.

Harness is a four-octave tenor who once was an understudy to Luciano Pavarotti.

‘Talking With’ benefit

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will present three performances of “Talking With” by Jane Martin.

The 1982 play is a series of monologues about women’s lives. Proceeds will benefit the YWCA’s Alternative to Domestic Violence program, which provides shelter, counseling and legal advocacy for area families.

Performances will be Sunday at 7 p.m., May 15 at 3 p.m. and May 22 at 7 p.m. There is a suggested minimum donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.

Tea and fashion show

Country Homes Nazarene Church, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present a tea, fashion show and silent auction today from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event will include sandwiches, tea cookies, coffee and lemonade, a fashion show by the Fashion Bug, and a silent auction for dinners, jewelry and more.

Suzanna Baylon from KXLY will host the event, which also will include a Mother of the Year contest.

Homelessness fund-raiser

Members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, are raising public awareness of homeless teens in Spokane by spending a night out in front of the church from 4:30 p.m. today through 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Donations of food, clothing and cash will be accepted during those hours and will benefit Spokane Crosswalk. Clothing should be in good repair and in sizes that will fit teens from 13 to 17.

Religious art lecture

On Sacred Grounds Coffee, Tea & Specialty Shoppe, 163 S. Lincoln St., is offering a lecture on religious art and icons at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Rummage and book sales

• Twelve area churches have banded together for a rummage sale to benefit the Caritas Center.

The sale is today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St.

Churches involved include Assumption Catholic, Country Homes Christian, Covenant United Methodist, Gloria Dei Lutheran, Immanuel Baptist, New Hope Christian, Northwood Presbyterian, Prince of Peace Lutheran, Rock of Ages Christian, St. David’s Episcopal, Shadle Park Presbyterian, Spokane Friends and Whitworth Presbyterian.

• Redeemer Lutheran Women in Mission will hold its third annual used books sale today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 N. Schafer Road.

Items for sale include books, CDs and videos. Proceeds will benefit a local mission, the Restoration Station. The money raised will be matched by Thrivant Financial.
